About 401(k) Calculator
The 401(k) Calculator shows what the account grows to and, more usefully, whether you are capturing the full employer match. Set salary, contribution percentage, the employer match rate and the salary percentage it caps at, current balance, years invested and expected annual return; it compounds monthly and splits the result into your contributions, employer contributions and investment growth. It flags contributions below the match limit and estimates annual and lifetime pre-tax savings at a 22% bracket. Everything is calculated in the page.

How to use
Enter your Annual Salary in dollars, then drag the Contribution Percentage slider. The readout underneath shows both the percentage and the dollars you would put in each year.
Under Employer Match, enter the Employer Match Percentage (50 means a 50 cent match per dollar) and the Match Limit percentage your employer will match up to.
In Growth & Timeline, fill in Current Balance, Years to Retirement and Expected Return so the balance compounds monthly until you retire.
Read the At Retirement figure, then the Your Contributions, Employer Contributions, Investment Growth and Free Money cards below it.
If the tip saying you are leaving free money on the table appears, raise your Contribution Percentage up to the Match Limit to capture the full match.
