How do you convert kg to stones and pounds?
British and Irish scales report body weight in stones and pounds, and one stone is exactly 14 pounds. Convert the kilograms to pounds first, then split the result: the whole stones are the pounds divided by 14, and what is left over is the pounds. 70 kg is 154.32 lb, and 154.32 ÷ 14 leaves 11 whole stones with 0.3 lb over, so 70 kg is 11 stone 0.3 pounds. Is weight the same as mass, and how do you convert it to newtons?
Strictly, mass is how much matter an object contains and weight is the force gravity applies to it. Kilograms, grams, pounds and stones are all mass units, so converting between them gives the same answer on Earth, on the Moon or in orbit. Turning a mass into a force means multiplying by standard gravity: 70 kg × 9.80665 m/s² = 686.5 newtons at sea level. That newton figure changes with location; the 70 kg does not. Scales, shipping labels and recipes all mean mass, which is what this tool converts.
How do you convert ounces to grams for a recipe?
American recipes measure dry ingredients in ounces by weight, and one ounce is exactly 28.349523125 grams. So 8 oz of chocolate is 226.80 g and 1 lb of butter is 453.59 g. The trap is the fluid ounce, which measures volume and not weight: a US fluid ounce is 29.5735 ml and a UK imperial fluid ounce is 28.4131 ml, so neither can be converted with the factors on this page unless the ingredient has the density of water. Weigh the dry ingredients, pour the liquids.
Can a weight converter turn kilograms into litres or millilitres?
Not on its own. Kilograms measure mass and litres measure volume, and the bridge between them is density, which depends on the substance. Water is the easy case everyone relies on: one litre of water weighs almost exactly 1 kg, so 500 ml is 500 g. Everything else differs, and some ingredients differ from themselves: plain flour runs roughly 0.45 to 0.60 kg per litre depending on whether it is sifted or scooped, while olive oil is around 0.92 kg and honey around 1.42 kg. The same litre jug can hold anywhere from half a kilogram to nearly one and a half.
What is a troy ounce and why is it heavier?
Gold, silver and platinum are priced per troy ounce, which is exactly 31.1034768 grams — about 9.7% heavier than the everyday avoirdupois ounce of 28.3495 g. The troy pound is stranger still: it holds only 12 troy ounces, so it weighs 373.24 g against the 453.59 g of a standard pound. When a bullion quote says one ounce it always means the troy ounce, so converting a gold weight with the ordinary ounce understates the metal by about 2.75 g per ounce.

About Weight Converter
Weight is the measurement the world never agreed on. A recipe from Ohio asks for 8 ounces of flour, a British nurse writes 12 stone 4, a freight quote comes back in metric tons, and a jeweller works in carats and grains — all of them describing the same physical quantity. This converter moves a value between the nine units people actually meet, using the defined factors rather than the rounded ones that circulate on conversion charts.
Everything runs through grams internally. Your value is multiplied by the grams contained in the unit you chose, then divided by the grams in the unit you want, so no chain of intermediate roundings can build up. The factors themselves are fixed by definition: since the international yard and pound agreement of 1959, a pound is exactly 0.45359237 kilograms, an ounce is exactly one sixteenth of that, and a stone is exactly 14 pounds. The kilogram itself has been tied to the Planck constant since 2019, which is why none of these numbers drift.
Three things trip people up, and this page answers each. Weight and mass are not the same quantity — kilograms and pounds both measure mass, and turning either into a force means multiplying by 9.80665 to get newtons. A weight cannot become a volume without a density, which is why kilograms to litres only works cleanly for water.
